my manager holds semi-regular individual meetings with his staff, and my next one is Wednesday. I have asked that we get a meeting room (instead of his cubicle, the usual), as I am going to be telling him about our plans for IVF.
Now, as I had mentioned way back here, how much do I say? I'm still in much the same spot - still term, still not pg, same manager. he's pretty point-blank about a lot of stuff, and I think he'll wheedle it outta me some way or another. My term has only been extended until Mar 31 at this point, but I've been told mgr. plans to keep me around for quite a while (ie at least until my 3 years are up, so I become indeterminate). now of course, that could change, but who knows.
I guess my question is, am I crazy to *tell* him that we're doing IVF, or should I go with the generic 'monitoring' term? bah... the decisions...

I think in the long run, it'll mean less stress for you if you tell now, as then you won't have to explain the appointments you'll need to take time off work for, y'know?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't tell him. I just don't think its his business, ya know? Plus, not saying it will affect things, but he might write you off as 'a woman who is going to go on Mat Leave any day now' and trust me that is not an identity you want. My last boss did that with me after Nat, and I pretty much got ignored (no new assignments, treated like a second class citizen) until I moved to my new area. But maybe I'm biased.
ReplyDeleteI wouldnt tell him eaither...just like Kris said...I would wait until you are knee deep into it.
